Putting sausages to the test: Judge Criag Revel Horwood
As part of British Sausage Week which kicks off on 1 November, Horwood will be helping to find the nation's favourite sausage as he takes on his role as this year's 'King of Sizzle'.
And his new crown will see him team up with BPEX to celebrate the humble sausage and find the best bangers the country has to offer.
British Sausage Week celebrates the taste, quality and diversity of the sausage, of which there are some 400 individually named varieties in Britain alone.
In addition to the competition, the week provides a strong platform for retailers and catering establishments to launch celebratory events, sausage promotions or themed menus - all of which can boost sales.
And in his search to find the winners, Horwood will be given the enviable task of taste-testing different varieties of sausage - ranging from the traditional pork and herb option to the more unusual-sounding tangy pork and chilli and pork and stilton varieties.
The ex TV judge, who is known for his "tough" stance on judging, will visit towns up and down the country in his bid to find the ultimate sausages – and draw attention to the humble banger.
Entrants this year include chefs and school cooks who will battle butchers and the supermarkets in their effort to prove their sausage is most-deserving of the Star Sausage accolade.
Multiple retailer winners will be awarded in London at the start of British Sausage Week, receiving a Banger Award and a donation to a local charity of their choice.
This will be followed by regional presentations taking place in designated locations around the country.
Horwood commented: "The great British banger has so much to offer and I can't wait to get on the road and find the best bangers out there!
"I'm looking forward to seeing what's on offer, I'm a tough judge so my expectations are high."
