Two Buckinghamshire sites win catering awards

9th June 2008, 1:01pm

The catering team at two Buckinghamshire New University sites has received two accolades.

The team at Bucks' Chalfont Campus has been awarded the silver award for food safety by the Environmental Health department of Chiltern District Council, and Missenden Abbey Conference Centre, owned by Bucks New University, retained its gold award for food hygiene.

The silver award for food safety is given to food businesses that show true dedication to preparing food that is safe to eat. It is only awarded to businesses that go beyond meeting the legal food safety standards and perform good practice in the workplace.

Steve Crawford, director of the Abbey Conference Centre, commented on the achievement: "In addition to the physical improvements we have made in the kitchen, the Environmental Health Officer was particularly impressed with our training and overall management of this area."

Derek Godfrey, who is Pro Vice Chancellor, Research, Enterprise and Operations at Buckinghamshire New University, added: "The Chalfont catering department, led by Shirley Glasgow, is to be congratulated, and it is particularly pleasing that the award recognises the real team effort and total commitment shown from all members of the team."
