Phillip Skinazi won the contest with his dessert of coconut cream bomb, rum and raisan parfait, pineapple gel, caramelised pineapple and soy caramel. He also served a petit four made of cherry gel and chocolate ganache with grapefruit and saffron pate de fruit.
Skinazi, who is head pastry chef at Barclays Head Office in Canary Wharf, said: "I'm thrilled to have won. It is a great end to my first year at the College. Studying at Westminster Kingsway is more than just learning, it is also about swapping ideas with fellow students and meeting new people in the hospitality industry."
MSK Specialist Ingredients development chef, Vicky Endersen was one of judges of the competition. She explained: "Phillips's entry was picked as the winning dish as the flavours worked well together and his dish was beautifully presented. His attention to detail was spot on."
The other judges were Brett Graham, head chef of The Ledbury and Paul Jervis, chef lecturer at Westminster Kingsway College.
