22nd May 2008, 12:51pm

Foods Matter, the food allergy and intolerance magazine, has announced the results of its first ever free-from awards that were presented last night (21 May) by Antony Worral Thompson at his Notting Grill restaurant in West London.

The awards were divided into nine categories – eight covering the main free-from sectors (gluten/wheat free, dairy free, egg free etc) and one award for the most innovative new free-from product reviewed in the magazine in the last year.

Winners included Oatly Oat Cream, who picked up the Innovation Award, Mrs Crimbles Coconut Macaroons who was awarded for its gluten-free cereal bars and biscuits, sweet and savoury, and Biona Wholemeal Rye Bread who was ranked first for its wheat-free products.

And the winner of the FAIR trophy for the Best Free-from Food went to Roley's teff flour mix who was presented with a marble bust by Scottish sculptor Tom Allan, commissioned for the awards by the Foundation for Allergy Research and Information.
