Young chefs to compete at IFEX ChefSkill competition

29th April 2008, 10:32am

Student chefs Ciaran Cush and Samantha Freeney are to compete at Northern Ireland's IFEX ChefSkill competition tomorrow (30 April) on behalf of Barnardo's Northern Ireland.

Ciaran and Samantha, both aged 17, will take to the centre stage in front of the judging panel as well as more than 200 people from the hospitality industry to battle it out in the new 'chef ability award' class.

This category is new IFEX competition. It allows young people with learning disabilities to get a chance to prove their talents.

Entrants are required to cook a two-course meal in one hour.

Both young chefs have already gained their certificate in Essential Food Hygirnr and Health Safety and are currently studying NVQ level 2 in catering at Dr. B's Kitchen in Belfast (a café run by the children's charity).
