apetito, the frozen ready meal supplier to community care homes and hospitals nationally, has received a 'Big Tick' in Business in the Community's Awards for Excellence.

Winning the award for Workplace Impact, apetito has been recognised for a host of initiatives including its learning and development programme, works councils, internal communications programme and staff foundation.

Paul Freeston, chief executive, commented on achieving the award: "We believe that we have a responsibility to everyone at Team apetito, as without  our people we don't have a business - it's that simple!

"When colleagues have opportunities for development, they gain the capabilities, confidence and motivation to continually contribute to our present and future business success."

"Despite operating in a difficult financial climate, it is Team apetito that has driven growth of 7.5% this year – proof that investment in our people is a valuable one, seeing real financial returns as well as creating a positive, pleasant and fun place to work in."

The Awards for Excellence recognises those companies who have demonstrated innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to corporate responsibility through responsible business practice.

This year 358 organisations from across the UK entered the awards and just 38% of applicants were successful, with 106 receiving a Big Tick.
