Contract caterer Elior UK wins Green Apple Award

22nd November 2011, 8:23am

Elior UK has won a Green Apple Environmental Best Practice Silver Award for successfully reducing the environmental impact of its business through a partnership with wholesale distributor 3663.

The contract caterer was recognised this week at The House of Commons for an initiative which works to: reduce carbon emissions by consolodating deliveries, recycle waste cooking oil which is then used as a sustainable biofuel by its supplier 3663, and encourage the use of recyclable disposables at all of its sites.

Grazia Dal Fara, Elior corporate responsibility manager, who collected the award on behalf of Elior UK, said: "Environmental best practice is at the heart of our business and we work in partnership with suppliers like 3663 to tackle common environmental goals - in this case reducing our carbon emissions.

"By working together we've seen some fantastic results. From the collection of waste cooking oil in the last calendar year we have diverted 200,830 litres of waste cooking oil from landfield. And thanks to the ISO 14064 system implemented by 3663, we have been certified to have saved 103.8 tonnes of CO2."

The award comes days after Elior was crowned Highly Commended at the Green Business Awards 2011.
