Maidaid Halcyon announces first CEnv award for UK warewashing industry

9th April 2010, 7:25am

Maidaid Halcyon has announced that Derek Maher Managing Director, Crystaltech Services (UK) Limited, has been awarded Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) registration, believed to be the first such award for a supplier in the UK catering warewashing industry.

Crystaltech is the in-house support and maintenance supplier for Maidaid Halcyon dishwashing equipment and works with all leading UK warewashing suppliers on installations, commissioning and maintenance.

Chartered Environmentalist status recognises the holder's demonstration of and commitment to sustainable environmental management and development. The qualification is awarded by the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) and establishes proven knowledge, experience and commitment to professional standards in the environmental field.

"Poorly commissioned or badly maintained warewashing equipment will use more energy and chemicals than is necessary and at Crystaltech we believe that is unacceptable," says Derek Maher.

"Environmental management – increasing sustainability and reducing energy and chemical consumption – is a top priority for the UK catering industry and for the warewashing sector in particular.

"Those who pay for warewashing services expect value for money and minimal environmental impact and increasingly, they refuse to accept wasteful practices."

Why do dishwashing people have to use the horrible American term "warewashing" the British term is dishwashing. Period.

Congratulations to Derek. We need more qualified people in the industry that can speak authoritatively about these sorts of issues and sustainability opportunities so that our end users can rely on unbiased advice that has a firm knowledge background.
