School meals meat supplier UK Foodhall wins top HSBC business award

UK Foodhall, a small business that supplies healthy British meals to British schools is celebrating after being named the winner of the 2009 HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards.

The judging panel, which included Huw Morgan head of business banking at HSBC and Maisha Frost a business journalist from the Daily Express newspaper, recognised UK Foodhall for "…its support for British farmers and its enterprise in getting their meat onto the menu for children across the country."

The company was also the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) Outstanding Supplier of the Year in 2008.

UK Foodhall, which carries the slogan 'Great British Food for Great British Kids', is the biggest meat supplier to local authorities across the UK.

Founder Karen McQuade was presented with £25,000, courtesy of HSBC, and £5,000 worth of Google advertising at a ceremony at the InterContinental Hotel in London's Park Lane.
